How an expandable roller conveyor works
An expandable roller conveyor is built from scissor-linked sections, each carrying a set of rollers on its own legs and castors. Pull it out and the sections open into a long conveyor; push it in and it compresses to a fraction of its length. Because the sections pivot, the conveyor can also curve round columns and into a vehicle at an angle.
A powered version drives the rollers, so cartons travel on a level bed and can climb a gentle slope. A gravity version uses free rollers and a slight decline. Both are popular at loading docks, in parcel and e-commerce dispatch, in warehouses and fulfilment centres and on temporary assembly lines. How far does an expandable roller conveyor extend?
Extension depends on the number of sections. A common build reaches about 30 ft extended and closes to roughly a third of that. More sections give more reach but add weight and cost. Tell us the longest and shortest lengths you need and we will set the section count.
What load can an expandable roller conveyor carry?
Our powered models are rated at about 40 kg per section, with eight rollers per section. Heavier loads need closer roller pitch, stronger rollers or a fixed roller conveyor instead. Share your heaviest carton and how many cartons sit on the conveyor at once.
Can an expandable conveyor go into a truck?
Yes. The front sections can run into a lorry or container while the rear stays at the dock, and the conveyor curves to line up with the vehicle. For full 40 ft containers loaded daily, a telescopic belt conveyor may be more efficient; see our truck loader conveyor page.
What is the difference between IC-600 and IC-800?
The number refers to the effective roller width in millimetres. The 600 mm version suits most standard cartons and is lighter to move. The 800 mm version carries wider cartons and mixed parcel sizes with more side margin. Choose the width that clears your largest carton with some room to spare.
