Borewell and mining drilling equipment for every site

Drilling contractors, mining companies, agricultural users and infrastructure firms each need different machines. A contractor drilling water wells in hard rock needs a powerful DTH rig with a large compressor; a mine may need crawler-mounted rigs that climb benches; a farmer or small contractor may prefer an economical tractor-mounted rig; a pipeline project may need horizontal directional drilling.

Industrisol sources borewell and mining equipment in a wide range of specifications and configurations. Rigs are sturdy, built for continuous field use and designed for low routine maintenance. We help you match the machine to the job so that it drills efficiently and lasts.

How a borewell rig drills

Most borewells in hard rock are drilled with a DTH (down-the-hole) hammer. A compressor sends high-pressure air through the drill pipes to the hammer at the bottom of the hole. The hammer strikes the bit rapidly while the rig rotates the drill string, breaking the rock, and the same air flushes the cuttings up and out of the hole.

In softer, alluvial ground, rotary drilling with mud or water circulation is often used instead, and the hole is cased to stop it collapsing. Core drilling uses a hollow bit to recover a solid sample of rock for exploration. Horizontal directional drilling steers a pilot bore under obstacles, then reams it out to pull in a pipe.

Choosing the right rig type

Rig type Best suited for Key consideration
Truck / lorry-mounted Contractors drilling many wells across sites Road access and compressor size
Tractor-mounted Agricultural and village wells, piling Lower investment, moderate depth
Trolley-mounted Small sites, shallow to medium wells Easy towing and set-up
Crawler Rough terrain, quarries, mine benches Off-road mobility
Rover / self-propelled Sites with limited access Manoeuvrability
Core drilling Mineral exploration, geotechnical work Core size and depth
Horizontal directional drilling Pipelines and cables under roads Bore length and diameter

What to consider when buying a drilling rig

  • Drilling depth: the deepest hole you expect, with margin for future work.
  • Hole diameter: decided by casing and pump size.
  • Formation: hard rock suits DTH; soft or alluvial ground suits rotary or tube well methods.
  • Compressor capacity: air pressure and volume must match hammer size and depth.
  • Mobility: truck for road travel, crawler for rough ground, tractor or trolley for lower cost.
  • Operating cost: fuel use, bits, hammers and spares availability.

For water wells, depth depends heavily on local geology. In parts of the north Indian alluvial plain, wells of 30 to 50 m can give good water, with deeper wells needed only where shallow water has high TDS or contaminants. Hard-rock regions often need much deeper wells, so get local hydrogeological advice before drilling.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Call +91 90433 36700 or send an enquiry.

Which machine is used to drill a borewell?

Most borewells in hard rock are drilled with a rig using a DTH (down-the-hole) hammer. A compressor sends high-pressure air through the drill pipes to the hammer, which breaks the rock while the rig rotates the string. In softer ground, rotary rigs with mud circulation are common. The rig may be truck, tractor, trolley or crawler mounted.

How deep should a borewell be?

It depends on local geology and water quality. In alluvial areas of north India, wells of 30 to 50 m often give good water. Hard-rock areas in the Deccan and south India frequently need much deeper wells. Check with local hydrogeological data or nearby well records before choosing depth and rig capacity.

What is the difference between a truck-mounted and a tractor-mounted rig?

A truck-mounted rig carries the rig and usually the compressor on one vehicle, suits contractors moving between many sites and generally drills deeper. A tractor-mounted rig uses a tractor for power and mobility, costs less and is popular for agricultural wells and moderate depths.

Which pump is suitable for a borewell?

Submersible pumps are the most common choice for borewells of any significant depth because they sit below the water level. Jet pumps installed above ground suit shallow wells up to around 150 feet. Compressor pumps are also used in some areas. Pump selection depends on water level, yield and required delivery.

How do I calculate the water stored in a borewell?

Subtract the depth to the water level from the total well depth to get the water column height. Then multiply pi (3.14) by the square of the well radius and by that height. This gives the volume in cubic units, which you can convert to litres.

Do you supply spares and accessories for drilling rigs?

We can source common spares and accessories such as bits, hammers and drill pipes along with rigs. Share the rig model and part details with your enquiry and we will confirm availability and send a quotation.
