Overview

Cleaner power, stable supplies and the components behind them

Modern plants run on drives, UPS systems, LED lighting, welding sets and electronic controls. These loads draw reactive power and distorted, non-sinusoidal current. The results show up as a poor power factor on the electricity bill, overheating cables and transformers, capacitor failures, nuisance tripping and interference with sensitive electronics.

Our power quality solutions in Mumbai address these problems at the source. Capacitor and APFC panels correct power factor automatically. Detuned filters protect capacitor banks from harmonic resonance. Active harmonic filters cancel harmonic currents dynamically. Alongside these we supply the power electronics that control systems depend on, including switch mode power supplies, AC-DC converters and programmable power sources, as well as semiconductor ICs, wireless modules and the 3502 FC gateway for condition monitoring.

Send a recent electricity bill, a power quality reading or the part numbers you need, and we will suggest suitable options with a quotation.

Buyer's guide

Choosing between APFC panels, detuned filters and active filters

Start with data. The right solution depends on the load. Useful inputs are the transformer rating, the maximum demand, the present power factor from your bill, a list of major loads (especially drives, UPS and furnaces) and, ideally, a harmonic measurement showing current distortion (THD-I) at the main incomer.

Mostly linear loads, low harmonics. A standard capacitor bank with an APFC controller is usually enough. The controller measures reactive demand and switches capacitor stages in and out to hold the power factor close to the target set point.

Significant harmonic loads. Plain capacitors can resonate with the system inductance at a harmonic frequency, amplifying distortion and failing early. A detuned bank adds a series reactor to each step so the resonance is shifted below the dominant harmonics. It corrects power factor safely but does not aim to remove harmonics.

High or varying harmonics, or a THD limit to meet. An active harmonic filter monitors the load current and injects equal and opposite harmonic currents. It responds quickly to changing loads and can be combined with a detuned APFC panel for both functions.

Power supplies. For control panels, size the SMPS for the total DC load plus a margin, check input voltage range, and consider redundancy or a DC-UPS for critical controls. For test benches, a programmable supply gives adjustable voltage and current limits.

ICs and modules. Always quote the full manufacturer part number including package and suffix, since these change pin-out, temperature range and packing.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Call +91 90433 36700 or send an enquiry.

What does an APFC panel do?

An automatic power factor control panel holds the power factor of an installation close to a set target. Its controller continuously measures reactive power and switches capacitor steps in or out to match the inductive load. This reduces reactive demand, can lower penalties or demand charges on the bill, and frees capacity in transformers and cables.

When do I need a detuned filter instead of a plain capacitor bank?

When your network carries significant harmonics, for example from VFDs, UPS systems or rectifiers. Plain capacitors can resonate with the supply inductance and amplify these harmonics, causing capacitor failures and fuse blowing. A detuned bank adds a series reactor so the resonance sits below the main harmonic frequencies, making power factor correction safe.

What is the difference between a detuned filter and an active harmonic filter?

A detuned filter is passive. Its main job is safe power factor correction, and it gives only limited harmonic reduction. An active harmonic filter is a power electronic device that measures load current and injects opposite harmonic currents, actively reducing distortion and responding quickly as loads change. The two are often used together.

How do I size an SMPS for a control panel?

Add up the current drawn by all DC loads, such as PLCs, HMIs, sensors, relays and valves, and allow a margin for inrush and future additions. Check the input voltage range, ambient temperature derating and mounting style. For critical controls, consider redundant supplies or a DC-UPS to ride through mains interruptions.

Can you source semiconductor ICs by part number?

Yes. Send the full manufacturer part number, including package and suffix, along with the quantity. Our listings include ICs from manufacturers such as Texas Instruments, NXP, Analog Devices and Allegro Microsystems. We will confirm availability and send a quotation, and suggest alternatives where a part is hard to find.

What is the 3502 FC gateway used for?

It is used for condition monitoring. The listed unit combines a gateway with a vibration sensor (sensitivity of plus or minus 32 g, 10 to 1000 Hz, 25,600 Hz sampling) so vibration on motors, pumps, fans and other rotating machines can be tracked wirelessly and problems spotted before they cause a breakdown.
